Let’s talk about The Federal Reserve. Consider the following facts:

A) From 1776 to 1912 (136 years), the value of the dollar, relative to the Consumer Price Index, increased by 11%. A dollar could buy 11% more goods in 1912 than in 1776. Thus, if in 1776, you sat on your savings pile of $1,000,000 for 136 years, it would then be worth $1,110,000 in purchasing power (it will have appreciated in value by 11%). A loaf of bread for Thomas Jefferson cost the same as a loaf of bread for Lincoln 50 years later and again the same for J.P. Morgan 50 years after that.

B) The United States Federal Reserve was created in 1913. The stated purpose of the Fed, by its own definition taken from its website, is to “conduct the nation’s monetary policy by influencing money and credit conditions in the economy in pursuit of full employment and stable prices.” Note that “stable prices” is another way of saying “stable dollar,” they are two sides of the same coin (couldn’t resist the pun).

C) Then after The Fed’s creation, from 1913 to 2008 (95 years), the value of the dollar, relative to the Consumer Price Index, decreased by 95%. A dollar could buy 95% fewer goods in 2008 than in 1913. Thus, if in 1913, you sat on your savings pile of $1,000,000 for 95 years, it would then be worth only $50,000 in purchasing power (it will have depreciated in value by 95%). One would now need to pay about 20X more than J.P. Morgan for one’s bread. Ask my mother how much the price of milk has increased just in the last ten years alone.

In other words, the value of the dollar remained extremely stable for 150 years, then The Fed was created in order to “stabilize the value of the dollar” and the result has been a 95% devaluation of the dollar in less than 100 years following its creation. Below is a graph of this history, which I’ve marked with the year 1913 so you can see the change. The graph is also marked with the years of decoupling from the gold standard, as no examination of dollar value would be sound without such mention. 

While we all take inflation as a “given” – as something that “just happens” in the economy – we would do well to remember that this belief is utterly incorrect. Inflation, which is the loss of value in your saved dollars, is caused by The Federal Reserve through its management of the money supply. Next time you see Ben Bernanke on the television, telling you that they “will take the necessary steps” to help the country, consider their track record so far, and their dismal failure at their stated objective – preserving the value of America’s money.

Outrage doesn’t even begin to describe what Americans should feel in response to this. Yet, Americans aren’t very upset, and indeed the vast majority has no idea about any of this information. I would wager that this is because Americans are educated in Government schools, which barely teach basic accounting, let alone macroeconomic monetary theory. In public school I was forced to memorize the names of every country in Africa, yet never was there a discussion of the nature of money. Half the nations of Africa have been renamed since, but the economic principles which cause such political turmoil remain the same.

The Federal Reserve System is fraudulent. Whatever its stated purpose, its effective purpose is to create a mechanism of deficit spending by politicians, through the insidious invisible taxation of monetary debasement (aka inflation). With printed money, the Government can buy services for its voters before the effects of inflation are felt. It is then the voters whose money buys less the following year, as the new money has raised prices, and they are none the wiser.

Obama is now mandating that The Fed is to have more oversight, more authority and control over the markets of the United States. If we can learn anything from The Fed, it’s that the best way to succeed as a politician is to stretch one’s failure over a long enough period that people won’t remember it.

MY COMMENTS:  If you want to devote any energy to political issues beyond the local stuff, the FED is the target.  The FED is the tool.  Take away the tool and the money masters have a hard time doing their dirty business.  Unfortunately, most folks will get smart about this issue when it is too late.  It may be too late now, but the good news is that there are far more educated people in the US on this subject than there was just two years ago.  Many folks are just starting to realize that the FED and the US Monetary System is probably not a very good thing for the average American.  That is a very good sign even if the future does not look good.

Major Expose on Swine Flu by 60 Minutes

If you watched the videos above in their entirety, you got to see several propaganda-like ads for the swine flu vaccine from the 1970s. Those ads are quite chilling … not because of their talk of the approaching swine flu epidemic, but because of their obvious intention to scare Americans into taking a swine flu vaccine that ended up being far worse than the disease itself.

This swine flu scare first occurred in 1976, right before I entered medical school and I remember it very clearly. It resulted in the massive swine flu vaccine campaign discussed by 60 Minutes.

Do you happen to recall the result of this massive campaign?

Within a few months, claims totaling $1.3 billion had been filed by victims who had suffered paralysis from the vaccine. The vaccine was also blamed for 25 deaths.

Several hundred people also developed crippling Guillain-Barré Syndrome after they were injected with the swine flu vaccine. Even healthy 20-year-olds ended up as paraplegics.

And the swine flu pandemic itself? It never materialized.

Fast-forward over three decades later, and now in 2009 there is similar vaccine propaganda brewing.

A New Swine Flu Vaccine is Coming

In June 2009, the World Health Organization raised the level of the swine flu pandemic alert from phase 5 to phase 6, their highest warning level that indicates a pandemic capable of widespread human infection.

As I predicted in my first swine flu alert (which was the most popular one I ever published), a fast-tracked swine flu vaccine was promptly ordered, and will be available as early as this month.

Although many governments and health organizations are probably celebrating this feat, just as they did back in 1976, you have no reason to join in the festivities. In fact, you have good reason to fear being exposed to this new swine flu vaccine more than the swine flu itself.

You are virtually guaranteed that no safety evaluations will be performed prior to the reckless unleashing of this untested vaccine, and if history repeats itself (as it so often does), it could potentially be the cause of countless permanent injuries and deaths.

Making matters worse, there is a campaign underway to turn schools into virtual vaccination clinics, and children will be the first to be injected with experimental swine flu vaccines.

As in the past, health officials are positioning this mandatory vaccination as a panacea to prevent “explosive outbreaks” of the swine flu. But if you dig even slightly below the surface you easily find that the swine flu is often times very mild.

Should You be Afraid of the Swine Flu Pandemic?

Now that the swine flu is officially being called a pandemic, it conjures up images of overflowing hospitals and people wearing protective masks just to avoid becoming the next statistic.

In reality, the word ‘pandemic’ only means that a new virus is spreading across the world. It says nothing about its level of physical danger. That level of severity, according to The World Health Organization, is only “moderate.” And they go on to say:

“On present evidence, the overwhelming majority of patients experience mild symptoms and make a rapid and full recovery, often in the absence of any form of medical treatment.

Worldwide, the number of deaths is small. Each and every one of these deaths is tragic, and we have to brace ourselves to see more. However, we do not expect to see a sudden and dramatic jump in the number of severe or fatal infections.”

To put matters even more into perspective, the swine flu has claimed a mere 429 lives WORLDWIDE (as of July 15), while the regular flu (not the swine flu) has allegedly killed 13,000 in the United States since January (although there is strong support that even these types of figures are grossly exaggerated to increase vaccine sales).

So the fact remains that the regular flu at this point in time is FAR more dangerous than the swine flu, and were you worried about the regular flu before the media started hyping up this exotic new “killer flu”?

Just like in 1976, today there is clearly a lot of fear-mongering going on, fear-mongering that has a noticeable subplot — preparing you for draconian measures to combat a future pandemic as well as forcing you to accept the idea of mandatory vaccinations.

This is not the time to fall for hype. These public scare-tactics are designed to make money, not protect your health.

So I urge you to review the vast supply of information available on the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) Web site, and join Barbara Loe Fisher in her urging to take action against the potential threat of mandatory swine flu vaccinations.

It’s imperative that you educate yourself about vaccinations, influenza, vaccine risks, and the public health laws in your state, so you know what you’re up against, especially if you have children that attend public schools.

You need to find out what your rights and options are under new public health laws that may require you and your children to get vaccinated or be quarantined.

If You Really Want to Avoid the Flu …

Staying healthy and avoiding all types of flu has nothing to do with getting a vaccine and everything to do with leading a healthy lifestyle.

I have not caught the flu in over two decades, and you can avoid it too by following these simple guidelines, which will keep your immune system in optimal working order so that you’re far less likely to acquire the infection to begin with.

1. Optimize your vitamin D levels. As I’ve previously reported, optimizing your vitamin D levels is one of the absolute best strategies for avoiding infections of ALL kinds, and vitamin D deficiency is likely the TRUE culprit behind the seasonality of the flu — not the flu virus itself.

I would STRONGLY urge you to have your vitamin D level monitored to confirm your levels are therapeutic at 50-70 ng.ml and done by a reliable vitamin D lab like Lab Corp.

If you are coming down with flu like symptoms and have not been on vitamin D you can take doses of 50,000 units a day for three days to treat the acute infection. Some researchers like Dr. Cannell believe the dose could even be as high as 1,000 units per pound of body weight for three days.

However, most of Dr. Cannell’s work was with seasonal and not pandemic flu. If your body has never been exposed to the antigens there is chance that the vitamin D might not work. Your best bet is to maintain healthy levels of vitamin D around 60 ng/ml.

2. Avoid Sugar and Processed Foods. Sugar decreases the function of your immune system almost immediately, and as you likely know, a strong immune system is key to fighting off viruses and other illness. Remember that sugar is present in foods you may not suspect, like ketchup and fruit juice.

3. Get Enough Rest. If your body is overly fatigued it will be harder for it to fight the flu. Be sure to check out my Guide to a Good Night’s Sleep for some great tips to help you get quality rest.

4. Have Effective Tools to Address Stress. If stress becomes overwhelming then your body will be less able to fight off the flu and other illness.

If you feel that stress is taking a toll on your health, consider using a tool such as the meridian tapping technique, which is remarkably effective in relieving stress associated with all kinds of events, from work to family to trauma.

5. Exercise. When you exercise, you increase your circulation and your blood flow throughout your body. The components of your immune system are also better circulated, which means your immune system has a better chance of finding an illness before it spreads. You can review my exercise guidelines for some great tips on how to get started.

6. Take a good source of animal-based omega-3 fats like krill oil. Increase your intake of healthy and essential fats like the omega-3 found in krill oil, which is crucial for maintaining health. It is also vitally important to avoid damaged omega-6 oils like trans fats as it will seriously damage your immune response.

7. Wash Your Hands. Washing your hands will decrease your likelihood of spreading a virus to your nose, mouth or to other people. Be sure you don’t use antibacterial soap for this — antibacterial soaps are completely unnecessary, and they cause far more harm than good. Instead, identify a simple chemical-free soap that you can switch your family to.

8. Use All-Natural ‘Antibiotics’. Freshly crushed garlic cloves work like a broad-spectrum antibiotic against bacteria, virus, and protozoa in your body. And unlike with antibiotics, no resistance can be built up so it is an absolutely safe product to use. However, if you are allergic or don’t enjoy garlic it would be best to avoid as it will likely cause more harm than good.

Other all-natural antibiotics include olive leaf extract and oil of oregano.

9. Avoid Hospitals and Vaccines. In this particular case, I’d also recommend you stay away from hospitals unless you have an emergency, as hospitals are prime breeding grounds for infections of all kinds, and could be one of the likeliest places you could be exposed to this new bug.

IN MEMORIAM: A LION IS GONE

It is with great sadness that a dear friend and colleague, Alan Stang, passed away July 19, 2009 at the young age of 80.

Alan was unique. He was fearless. For Alan Stang, truth was paramount.

Alan recognized decades ago that political correctness was one of the most idious tools of the ruling elite class. He fought it with all the ferocity of a lion. His voice stood out as a beacon for freedom and liberty through truth and knowledge. No icon was off limits for Alan. He played no favorites. In his eyes and heart, all men are created equal and no one is above the law.

Many years ago I read a book titled, The Actor: A Study in Deception. The true story of John Foster Dulles, Secretary of Statae 1953 to 1959. Little did I know that one day I would write for the same news/commentary site as that author! Alan’s accomplishments were many:

“Alan Stang was one of Mike Wallace’s original writers at Channel 13 in New York. A talk show host. In Los Angeles, he went head to head nightly with Larry King, and, according to Arbitron, had almost twice as many listeners. He was a foreign correspondent. Alan wrote hundreds of feature magazine articles in national magazines and some fifteen books, for which he has won many awards, including a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for journalistic excellence.

“One of Alan’s exposés stopped a criminal attempt to seize control of New Mexico, where a gang seized a court house, held a judge hostage and killed a deputy. The scheme was close to success before Stang intervened. Another Stang exposé inspired major reforms in federal labor legislation.

“His first book, It’s Very Simple: The True Story of Civil Rights, was an instant best-seller. His first novel, The Highest Virtue, set in the Russian Revolution, won smashing reviews and five stars, top rating, from the West Coast Review of Books, which gave five stars in only one per cent of its reviews. ‘Alan lectured in every American state and around the world and has guested on many top shows, including CNN’s Cross Fire.”

We all chuckled when reading his columns because Alan called his beloved wife the “Love Priestess.” They were married 35 wonderful years. A wonderful father, husband, grand dad and American.

For me, a friend and colleague. Alan, you will be sorely missed. Rest in peace.

A private memorial will be held at their local church; services will be closed to the family. Paul’s son, Jay, has informed me that, perhaps a month down the road, there will be a public memorial for his dad. Potato Progress

Dates for starting the harvest are 9-9-09 and 9-29-09; easy to remember.  That gives us about 90 days for the Chieftain Reds and 110 days for the German Butterball and Princess La Ratte fingerlings.  Not a fantastic crop, but many did grow and many did survive the drier than expected conditions and the munching gophers; I think we are at around 55 trapped so far.

Capt. Phil is coming out this week to take some video of me standing in my patch surrounded by my paltry green.  He wants to add this footage to the end of the epic documentary that never seems to get completed where we get the luscious plants themselves on film about 40 days into it and perhaps some audio of my eloquent phrasings on the subject. I’ll be using words like dirt, gophers, soil test (didn’t have one done), too dry, drip irrigation, emitter, gophers, traps, dust, dirt, dirt and gophers. Did I mention gophers?

Since planting I think I have missed a total of 4 days not being out there for a few hours in some capacity or incapacity depending on one’s perspective; mostly setting traps, pulling the water lines and lately, hilling and more hilling.  That works out to about 126 hours or so. That’s not even counting all the hours my Mom put in coming over and setting and checking traps.  She helped me to catch a lot of gophers. The potato plants look pretty nice after they are hilled and some of them really reach up.  Looks like a crop alright and now even the bare spots don’t bother me too much. I am a beginner and it is expected that I will loose my shirt. 

The idea, I think, is to press forward, pretending that everything is OK.  Small farm owners in the US have been doing this for generations. Why should I be any different?

Romancing the Potato

Hilling potatoes gives me time to think.  One of my most persistent thoughts is “What am I doing out here?”  These hand tended spuds would be about the same price per pound as the best wine these adjacent lands have ever produced if I counted my labor.  Ridiculous.  An artist/engineer/mule enthusiast/ libertarian blogger should never be a farmer and even less so a businessman.

I am learning a hard lesson.  I probably do not have the discipline or good sense to be a successful farmer.  A complete character change would probably be necessary. I would need to fall in love with paperwork, telling other people what to do, schmoozing and filing.  The thought of it makes me comatose.

I don’t want a tractor, but I keep looking at the craigslist ads for tractors.  I like doing the work out in the potato patch, but it is the kind of work a farmer usually gets someone else to do so he can do the higher level activities like planning, marketing, selling and paying the bills. 

I spoke to an organic farmer some time ago when I was thinking about planting an acre of potatoes and he told me the best thing I have going in the endeavor is the fact that I have a 9 to 5 job.  He was pretty beat down; nice to me, but certainly not offering much encouragement as he related the reality of his situation.

I keep thinking the better way would reveal itself once the economy really crunches, but that is almost as dismal as the idea of sitting in my office doing all the things a successful farmer would be doing.  Of course, this is embryonic.  I recognize the phase from my other past passions, like painting and epic recumbent bike trips.  I am still learning and digesting. I have a long way to go in sorting this entire thing out.

But the best part is just being out there in the dirt, looking for the next thing to do: set a gopher trap, move the water lines or get over to that neglected area to get those taller ones hilled. Later, I look at what I did and the crop looks better. So much so that I might even get some more potatoes.

I am thinking or rather ruminating that keeping it small, simple and stupid might not be so bad – so long as I keep my day job.

HOW MANY MORE LIES?

Well, another Independence Day. Another 2,000 tea parties attended by enraged Americans. But, also a display by arrogant politicians and just plain stupid Americans. Sen. John Cornyn of my state, Texas, was booed while he tried to sell more stink. But, he could care less. The ignorant, dumbed down voters (with the help of vote fraud) reelected this RINO in 2008 for another six years. The gutless city fathers of the City of Point St. Lucie put up a sign which read:

“The city of Port St. Lucie does not endorse, support, or condone the views or products of the organizations or individuals in this section. However we are required to make this space available to avoid the cost of litigation in reference to Section B.”

Wouldn’t want to lose any votes next election by actually supporting the true meaning of Independence Day. Better to stick with barbecue, booze and baseball. How these city fathers shame the memory of all the sacrifices by men, women and children and the blood that ran red rivers to birth a free nation.

Some of the cattle grazing along the sidelines had their cud chewing interrupted: “After voicing their opinions among themselves, the tea partiers then paraded into a nearby section of the city where a traditional Independence Day celebration was taking place with music and fireworks. Some onlookers appeared surprised, as they watched with open jaws as they read the messages on the tea party signs.”

Why, Fiddle-dee-dee! Look at those folks talking out against the government!

The prize example of stupidity belongs to this zombie: “One man apparently upset by the demonstration shouted, “Stop politicizing the Fourth of July!”

There’s nothing political about Independence Day. Not now and certainly not back in 1776. It was and is about freedom and liberty and stopping the tyranny clubbing us at every turn every day of the week. The second is a very important video: The Power of the Purse, The Power of the Sword. Unless and until Americans fully understand the monetary issue and how you put teeth into these Tenth Amendment resolutions, we will not move in the right direction as a whole nation.

While America watched fire works, fished rivers and lakes and listened to fiery oratory, tens of millions do not remember (or choose not to remember) the massive lies and cover ups that have affected the lives of tens of thousands of Americans. They don’t give more than a passing thought anymore to the victims and their families. Those who birthed this constitutional republic would be repulsed by the lack of interest and cowardice on the part of elected public servants who have turned a blind eye to getting the truth and exposing the murderers. They would be outraged that the American people would simply go about their business while murder and mayhem happens right under their noses.

Each and every one of these “events” remains a cover up while the guilty walk free. I haven’t forgotten and neither should every man and woman in this country. Millions refuse to look at the hard facts because they cannot and will not face the truth. These Americans willfully believe lies to protect their comfort zones. So be it. As for the rest of us who have taken the painful road to reality, we will NOT stop until the truth is exposed and the guilty brought to justice.

Assault on the U.S.S. Liberty

If this ‘incident’ had been carried out by any other country except Israel, it would have been considered (and rightly so) an overt act of war to which Congress would have had the absolute duty to address. That statement isn’t “anti-Semitic,” because the great majority of Americans in this country don’t even know what “anti-Semitic” even means. Nor is it a condemnation of the people of Israel, because they had no control over what their government did that day. Few Americans even know about this horrible event that killed 34 crew members and injured 174. After all, it was a long time ago, June 8, 1967. They certainly don’t know that our ship was deliberately targeted:

Israeli Pilot Speaks Up

“Fifteen years after the attack, an Israeli pilot approached Liberty survivors and then held extensive interviews with former Congressman Paul N. (Pete) McCloskey about his role. According to this senior Israeli lead pilot, he recognized the Liberty as American immediately, so informed his headquarters, and was told to ignore the American flag and continue his attack. He refused to do so and returned to base, where he was arrested.”

The Attack

“After surveilling USS Liberty for more than nine hours with almost hourly aircraft over flights and radar tracking, the air and naval forces of Israel attacked our ship in international waters without warning. USS Liberty was identified as a US naval ship by Israeli reconnaissance aircraft nine hours before the attack and continuously tracked by Israeli radar and aircraft thereafter. Sailing in international waters at less than five knots, with no offensive armament, our ship was not a military threat to anyone.

“The Israeli forces attacked without warning and without attempting to contact us. Thirty four Americans were killed in the attack and another 174 were wounded. The ship, a $40-million dollar state-of-the-art signals intelligence platform, was later declared unsalvageable and sold for scrap.”

Long forgotten (1981). Except by the families of the 62 Americans and the liars in our government – including Ronald Reagan – who covered up the truth. I will continue doing all I can to keep this in front of the American people because some of those passengers were children. Even though the adults may have passed away by now, the Russians are holding the survivors and today as I write this, the usuprer president is on his way to play politics with the “Gray Cardinal,” Vlad Putin. Putin is known in Europe as the Gray Cardinal because of his penchant for butchery while with the KGB. This thug is greatly feared because of his control of the Russian Mafia and drug trade.

Another cover up without question. The fairy tale told by the government and promoted by high paid radio and cable TV anchors is simply a farce and bears no reality to the truth. My dear friend, Ben Partin, a retired Brigadier General, U.S.A.F. worked on the development of continuous rod missiles and he believes that is what brought down the plane. The lies by high ranking FBI officials like James Kalstrom, demonstrates the complete, total rot and corruption that exists in Washington, DC. I don’t know how Kalstrom can look in the mirror every morning without seeing COWARD written right across his forehead. However, with a full government retirement and a “few belts” at the watering hole, I guess in his mind he can justify lying to a nation and obstructing justice.

The Achilles Heel of the ruling elite. Another “event” so monstrous, half the people in this country will never question the government’s propaganda and lies. For to acknowledge the scientific truth about the WTC Towers, Building Seven, the Pentagon and Flight 93 would be tantamount to cutting out their hearts and destroying everything they thought was true, and for being made fools of by those they admire and in some cases (Bush), worship. Very few even have the courage to read: After Pat’s Birthday. Comfort zones must be maintained while waving those American flags.

There are many more, i.e., AA Flight 587, but the bottom line is thousands of Americans have been murdered. We the people have been lied to and those of us who have done the hard research continue to be vilified, threatened, our reputations trashed by cowards who won’t look at the facts. I’m one of those reluctant researchers in that, like Richard Gage, it took me well over a year before I finally said, something is wrong here. For me, justice can never be “out of sight, out of mind.”

Please take the time to watch Gage’s two hour video here. Thousands of engineers, architects, pilots, combat pilot veterans, first responders, witnesses and victims all say the government’s story is a lie. Those three buildings were brought down by controlled demolition. Are they ALL loons? Are they ALL kool aid drinkers? Don’t let someone else do your thinking for you. See with your own eyes.

Each and every one of these horrific events has destroyed the lives of thousands and their families. We cannot forget them. We cannot allow those responsible to continue in walking around free while their families grieve because no one seems to care. How lonely it must be for them. I know my readers care and are sickened by these cover ups, including the Obama/Soetoro fraud.

The truth will come out on all of them because we are not going away. Cowards step aside. One day we will have men and women in public office with the guts and fire in their belly to say enough is enough and politics be damned!

The day of reckoning is coming.

MY COMMENTS:  I frequently meet people  who know nothing of the events or the truth of the events that she lists above.  Knowing this stuff is critical to an accurate worldview.  The list above is in fact, only a partial list – I would add the stories of Congresman George Hansen, Vince Foster, the Mena Akansas-Bush/Clinton Cabal, the Kennedy Assassination, the establishment of the Federal Reserve as documented by G. These Libertarians

I love these libertarians; even the ones that claim that at some point the world’s monetary powers will come to their senses and restore a sound monetary system. Or even the ones that claim the populations of the many countries suffering under this system will rise up and force the issue.  The positivism is infectious. I go there often with a giddy vision of free markets and real money in the future.

But wait a minute … can something like that really happen?

I think too many of them ignore the spiritual or religious component when dealing with this subject and even history itself in many cases.

For the secular jobber, we are probably not talking about a happy ending.  Sorry kids, man has NEVER pulled himself up by his own bootstraps.  The world has never worked that way and it would be very surprising if the nature of man and his true capabilities suddenly changed.  It would indeed need to be sudden under current circumstances.

I think a few readers (among the few I have here) are turned off by the Christian component on my blog.  They might think, “Why mess up your nice libertarian, free market and sound money theme with prayer and the Jesus stuff?” 

I thought long and hard about this for many years.  I studied a lot of subjects.  I found no good answers.  My own nature drove me away from the answers found in the Bible for more years than I care to admit.

But they are there.

Is the Bible perfect?  Many say it is.  That is a question you may be able to answer for yourself.  I will not make that argument here, but I will tell you that if you are hard driven to figure the world out you might just end up where I did about 12 years ago.  I hope you do and I can also tell you that intellectualism is not the key.  Studying and reading is all very well, but it won’t necessarily lead you to the precious Gift of Jesus.  In fact, that approach is more often a trap.

One thing is true. The world will never satisfy, but the Creator of the world Will.

Peter Schiff: Gold and gold stocks are the best bets

Gold prices are poised for a “spectacular” and prolonged rally as the recession deepens and investors finally become disillusioned with the U.S. dollar.

So says renowned Wall Street financial forecaster and economist Peter Schiff, who loudly warned of the October 2008 stock market crash and accompanying recession as far back as 2006.

Since the global economic meltdown, the president of the Connecticut-based investment firm Euro Pacific Capital has struck a chord with rattled investors who have lost faith in America’s bedrock financial institutions.  Hence, his well-received television media blitz in recent months has focused on extolling the virtues of owning gold bullion or gold equities, as well as urging Americans to get out of U.S. denominated investment assets.   

In a recent on-camera interview with BNW Business News Wire, Schiff suggests that the looming prospect of a hyper-inflationary environment in the U.S. will severely debase the greenback over the next few years. And the global investment community will realize that gold represents the ultimate “store of value” as a safe haven replacement for a discredited U.S. dollar.

Hence, gold bullion and gold-related investments, such as gold equities, will prove to be the best way to shield one’s money from the ravages of a protracted and severe inflationary environment, Schiff says.

“If you really want to grow your wealth, you should own gold in the mining sector,” he adds, while also suggesting that gold equities (companies that are already in production) offer the greatest leverage to rising gold prices.

“With gold stocks, there’s obviously a lot of leverage to higher gold prices. As millions or billions of people discover gold as a store of value and as a way to escape inflation, there’s going to be tremendous demand and somebody’s going to have to supply that demand. It’s obviously going to have to be mined,” he says. “So the companies that have gold and mine it are going to see profit margins explode.”

This extraordinary scenario will be accentuated by two key developments, Schiff says. One of them concerns the fact that burgeoning demand for gold will continue to outstrip annual global output. In fact, world gold production has been steadily declining since it peaked in 2001 in spite of a nearly U.S. $600 rise in gold’s price since then.

“Mines are not as productive as they used to be. Supply is very constrained. So if we get a big increase in demand, there are really no significant new gold deposits that are going to come on-stream any time soon. So the companies that are already producing are simply going to be able to get a lot more money for the ounces that they pull out of the ground,” he adds.

The other key consideration is an inevitable return to the ‘Gold Standard’ as a way for the world’s central banks to attach a meaningful valuation to each of their country’s currencies, Schiff says.

“The only solution to the economic problems that we have today is a return to sound money… The world is ultimately going to have to move away from the ‘Dollar Standard’ and back their currencies with something real. I think gold is the best thing to use. Gold has been money for 5,000 years,” he adds.

“When we go back to a real monetary standard…you’re talking about billions of people who don’t own any gold right now who will. Where’s the gold going to come from? It’s going to get mined.”

So obviously, in order for the world to go back to a Gold Standard, given how much paper money the U.S. government has printed, gold prices are going to have to be up in the stratosphere to make it work,” he declares.

“I think that gold is going to go to many thousands of dollars an ounce. I’m not exactly sure how high but I think it will be a spectacular run.”

Hence, gold producers will be big beneficiaries of the paradox that the noble metal is gradually reverting back to its traditional role as a last-resort hedge against economic turmoil and political crises at a time when underground supplies are beginning to dry up.

This suggests that gold stocks will be counter-cyclical investment stand-outs for the next few years, Schiff says. Against a grim backdrop of painful and pronounced economic contraction in North America, gold miners will literally have a license to print money.

“This is one sector that we can be very optimistic about because gold companies are going to be in the business of producing money. That’s going to be the money that people want. Not what the central banks are printing, but what gold mines are producing. That’s going to function as money,” he adds.

Yet, even though most gold producers are already experiencing impressive year-on-year earnings growth that promises to dramatically accelerate over the next few years, their lustrous prospects have yet to win over the mainstream investment community, Schiff says.

“I think a lot of the gold stock prices don’t reflect how high gold prices are going to go and what that’s going to mean to the profitability of these companies. I don’t think that this is appreciated by the market,” he adds.

Indeed, small to mid-sized gold mining stocks are still being overlooked by most investors for their trend-bucking tremendous growth potential, Schiff says. Additionally, most of these gilded equities have been over-sold since the onset of the recession and can still be acquired at bargain basement prices.

“Most stocks are significantly below what they were (in 2007), even though the price of gold is higher and the cost of mining is lower,” he says.

“And I think that the price of gold is going to keep rising faster than the price of producing it. And so gold companies are going to remain very profitable.”

Meanwhile, the next major up-leg in what Schiff refers to as the early stages of a secular bull market for gold is not far off, he says. It has merely been delayed by an unexpected and unsustainable rally in the U.S. dollar in recent months. One that has been caused by global deleveraging and by the false sense of security that investors gain from moving their money into U.S. treasury bills in a time of crisis, says Schiff.

“One of the reasons that gold isn’t stronger is because of this temporary strength of the dollar. This is keeping the gold market in check. And the dollar is getting some of the safe haven money that should be going into gold,” he says.

“At some point that will stop. The people who are buying dollars will realize that there’s no safety in dollars. Because the central banks are going to try to pay for the economic bailouts and stimuli by looting the world’s savings and by printing money and debasing it.”

 “So, if you want to escape that, you hold gold, which is something that the government cannot debase,” he concludes.

MY COMMENTS: What I said, what he said and what they said. Its all here, going back to some of the first posts.  Silver ain’t bad for those of us who don’t have thousands of FRN’s laying around.  Stocks are OK as far as you can throw them, but the “in hand” stuff is my preference.
